It is principally in the home where we find our identity and values, learning there, first, what it is like to live in society with other people. There are many joys and benefits of family life, as planned by our Creator. However, we are all sinners, which implies a brokenness even here in our primary social relationships. Offenses will come. But a Christian home must emphasize not only Law that demands righteousness, but Grace, which relies upon Divine power to forgive and to ask forgiveness. Not everyone enjoys the benefits of a healthy home life, either coming from a dysfunctional home or not having parents due to abandonment or tragedy. But the Gospel brings reconciliation and grace, bringing us into covenant relationship with God and others. The home is a metaphor of our relationship with God.
